Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, established in 1975, is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous wildlife conservation centers.
It was created to care for orphaned, injured, and abandoned elephants and today is home to the largest herd of captive elephants in the world.

• In autobus: Regular buses run from Colombo and Kandy to Pinnawala.
