Sri Lanka's Historic-Cultural Triangle is usually a range in Sri Lanka that consists of five UNESCO World Heritage sites extensive archaeological reserves escorting back thousands of years. Capitals to the north and northwest of Colombo's capital outline the Cultural Triangle, a crucial highlight for travellers to this teardrop-shaped island. The ancient centres, including the city connected to the Cultural Triangle, are Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Kandy, Sigiriya and Dambulla.
The Polonnaruwa Kingdom, or the Old city of Polonnaruwa, was the next capital of Sri Lanka for three centuries within the 11th to 13th centuries after the destruction of the アヌラーダプラ Kingdom in 993. It is found in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. Due to its archeological renown and the ancient technological perfection, UNESCO listed Polonnaruwa as a World Heritage in 1982 under the Ancient City of Polonnaruwa.
Sigiriya is one of the numerous critical ancient pillars of Sri Lanka. Referred by locals as the Eighth Wonder of the World, this old castle and fortress complex has considerable archaeological significance and brings thousands of travellers each year. Due to its remains of an ancient Sri Lankan civilization, UNESCO listed it as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1982 under the Sacred City of Anuradhapura.
The city of Kandy, the influential capital of Sri Lanka, a World Heritage Site, remains attractive in a channel surrounded by groups of mountains, 115km away from the town of Colombo. Right in the centre of the city centre of Kandy is the artificial lake called Kiri Muhuda, the only decorative lake in Sri Lanka.
The lake's southwestern edge makes way- just a few steps - to the Temple of the Tooth Palace. Udawattakele Bird Sanctuary, with its densely forested lush hillsides, hovers over the red tile rooftops and golden cover of the Temple of the Tooth.
The town of Dambulla in Sri Lanka is just 148km from Colombo. Found in the Matale District, Central Province, Sri Lanka. The city of Dambulla is essential because the Dambulla Cave Temple, the country's most comprehensive cave temple complex. Moreover recognised as Golden Rock Temple, this World Heritage Site comprises a cave monastery and five sanctuaries.
