Rathna Ella waterFall is the tallest in the Kandy district and the most widespread waterfall in Sri Lanka. Hasalaka Oya feeds the 101m high Ratna Ella Fall is the tallest Kandy district and the widest waterfall in Sri Lanka. It’s provided by Hasalaka Oya, a tributary of the Mahaweli River that originates from the Knuckles mountain range.
The 4 km footpath leading to the falls is entirely hidden by the dense forest where wild monkeys, dears, mongoose, squirrels, and many other dry zone flora and fauna.
The waterfall is inside the Victoria, Randenigala and Rantambe sanctuary. Collectively, it’s a great trek in the tropical dry zone forests of Sri Lanka.
Diving in this pool is dangerous. But, the walk up to the fall is no less adventurous and strenuous. The scenic trail, yet, compensates for the strenuous hike it takes.
The 4 km trail leading to the falls is fully embraced by the thick jungle where monkeys, dears, mongoose, squirrels, and many other dry zone flora and fauna abound.
The waterfall is inside the Victoria, Randenigala and Rantambe sanctuary. Collectively, it’s a great trek in the sultry dry zone covers of Sri Lanka.
