Más detalles sobre esta atracción

The origins of Soragune Devalaya date back to the 16th century, as documented in ancient Ola manuscripts (Uduwara, 1990). According to historical accounts, the shrine was established after a ruler named Udarata Yapa miraculously recovered from a throat ailment in the nearby village of Medagama. To honour this divine intervention, the ruler bestowed the village upon the gods and named it Medagama Kuda Kataragama Devalaya. Over time, the village's name evolved to Soragune, commemorating the place where Udarata Yapa regained his voice (Uduwara, 1990).

The Devalaya faced destruction during the 1818 Uva-Wellassa uprising, a significant rebellion between the native Kandyan forces and British colonial rulers. Despite its tumultuous past, the shrine was periodically restored and brought to its present state by the Department of Archaeology in 1988 (Uduwara, 1990).
