Building the 21-meter-high and 1,600-meter-wide Kandalama Dam created this pond with two uses. Between 1952 and 1957, the Department of Irrigation worked to restore the reservoir, which was built across the Mirisgoniya River, an important branch of the Kala Wewa River.
