Kandalama Lake

Being called "Kandalama Lake," the Kandalama Reservoir shows how committed Sri Lanka is to combining the beauty of nature with human creativity. It's not just a body of water in the middle of Kandalama; this pond is a lifeline for the area and a beacon for travellers looking for peace and beautiful views.

Building the 21-meter-high and 1,600-meter-wide Kandalama Dam created this pond with two uses. It provides the area's farmers, including Kekirawa, with what they need and protects the Kaludiya Pokuna Forest historical site. Between 1952 and 1957, the Department of Irrigation worked to restore the reservoir, which was built across the Mirisgoniya River, an important branch of the Kala Wewa River.

Kandalama Reservoir has a drainage area that is 102 square kilometres long and 2.3 km wide. The 33,300,000 cubic metres of water this pond holds gives it more than just a body of water; it reminds it of Sri Lanka's long history of managing water.

Additionally, the pond has become a top tourist spot, attracting people who want to connect with nature. Its beautiful settings make it a year-round retreat for people who crave the peace of water and the sounds of nature.

Not only a place to visit, the Kandalama Reservoir is an experience that is woven into Sri Lanka's natural and cultural mix. Because it gives life and is a peaceful place, it welcomes explorers and dreamers to find peace. The reservoir welcomes you with open arms, offering memories that will last long after you've left its shores, whether you're interested in history, nature, or solitude.
