The Kalpitiya area is the best place in Sri Lanka to see dolphins because it is conveniently located between the Indian Ocean and the vast Puttalama lagoon. This area gives you the best chances to see these fun sea creatures in their natural environment.
There are a lot of different kinds of plants and animals in the peninsula’s ecosystem, including the Bar Reef Marine Sanctuary, untouched lagoons, virgin woods, and many other places. The natural diversity of Kalpitiya is enhanced by the presence of mangroves, rare bird species, sea turtles, dolphins, and even whales. Visitors can see whales and dolphins up close from November to March or April, the best time for whale and dolphin watching.
If you love kiteboarding, Kalpitiya is the best place to be. With average daily wind speeds of 18 to 20 knots, the weather is great from May to October. The weather is excellent at this time for both new and experienced surfers to enjoy the sport against the beautiful backdrop of Kalpitiya’s coastline.
