Flag Rock Bastion, located at the southern tip of Galle Fort, is one of the most scenic and historic spots in Sri Lanka.
Originally built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later strengthened by the Dutch, the bastion once served as a lookout point
to warn ships of the dangerous rocky coastline using flags. Today, it has become a popular destination for travelers to enjoy breathtaking
sunsets, ocean views, and the lively atmosphere of Galle Fort. Reaching Flag Rock Bastion is easy—visitors can take a train or bus to Galle,
and from the railway or bus station it’s just a short walk or tuk-tuk ride into the fort. From Colombo, the Southern Expressway (E01) offers
a fast 2–2.5 hour drive. Once inside the fort, the bastion is best explored on foot, located near the Galle Lighthouse.
