Description
Image House Also known as Palimage, the most prominent image house found in the Jethawanarama monastery complex in Anuradhapura, is located west of Jethawanarama stupa. It is a vaulted image house known as gedige. The eight-meter high solid door side-posts make way for the twenty-five chamber stone reliquary (yantragala) and the lotus pedestal of the Buddha image. This vaulted type of house is continued at Polonnaruwa: Thuparama, Lankatilaka and Tivanka image house.
