The History of Ambewela Farm

Ambewela Farm's rich history dates back to the British colonial era in Sri Lanka. It was established in the early 1940s as a highland farm by the British government to provide fresh milk to the British army stationed in the country. The farm was initially used for breeding Australian cattle, but later on, it was converted into a dairy farm to cater to the increasing demand for milk in the country.

After Sri Lanka gained independence in 1948, the farm was handed over to the government and was managed by the Department of Agriculture. In 1978, the farm was handed over to the Ministry of Livestock Development, and in 1996, it was transferred to the National Livestock Development Board.

The farm has undergone several changes, with modern technology and equipment introduced to improve its efficiency and productivity. Today, the farm is managed by the state-owned dairy company Lanka Milk Foods (CWE), which is responsible for producing and distributing milk and dairy products in Sri Lanka. Despite the changes, the farm has retained its reputation as one of the best dairy farms in the country, and its high-quality milk products are in high demand both locally and internationally.
