Description
Seetha Amman Kovil has located just 1 km from the Hakgala Botanical garden. Uniquely Seetha Amman kovil in the world and is established according to South Indian architecture. According to the Epic Ramayana, legend has it that Seetha was held captive and hidden in this place by king Rama to protect her from the brute king Ravana. The stream that runs close to this place is believed to be where Sita bathed, and the rock by it is thought to be the place where she lay praying. On the rock face across the water are circular depressions believed to be the footprints of Rawana’s elephant. There is one place in the stream where the water cannot be drunk, and myth has that Sita cursed this place and hence the sour taste. Water is quite bright, and the Temple is known in many other names such as Sita Amman Kovil, Sita Amman Temple, Hanuman Kovil, Hanuman Temple, and Sri Bhakta Hanuma Kovil belong to the same place.

Significance of Seetha Amman Temple
The temple's significance lies in the black soil that covers the area. According to the epic of Ramayana, Hanuman Ji burnt this area before he left Sri Lanka. Even today, visitors can see the footprints of Lord Hanuman near the stream close to the Sita Amman Temple.
The Legend related to Seetha Amman Temple
Concerning the Ramayana, it is believed that King Ravana kept Sita Devi captive at this site. A stream runs by the side of the temple, catering to Sita Devi's needs during her stay at Ashok Vatika. She is said to have bathed in this stream, and about a century ago, three idols were discovered in the stream.

Nowadays, the temple is dedicated to Lord Rama, Sita Devi, Luxshmana, and Hanuman. It's interesting to note that visitors can still see footprints similar to Lord Hanuman's, with some being small and others larger.

Yes, you can participate in the Puja/Service, but it's important to inform the Ceylon Expeditions Travel Executive in advance to coordinate the timings with the temple.
Seetha Amman Temple Timings/Opening Hours
The temple is open 365 days a year and has two puja timings. The morning puja takes place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., while the evening puja takes place from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Entrance Fees of Ramayana Sites of Sri Lanka
Most Hindu temples and other Ramayana-related places in Sri Lanka do not charge an entrance fee, but you can donate a reasonable amount. If you participate in the Puja/services, you need to buy a ticket (approximately 100 – 200 Sri Lankan Rupees). The temple doesn't charge an entry fee, so that the place can be visited throughout the year.
Sita Amman Temple Dress Code
Visitors should be dressed decently while visiting the temple. A similar dress code to visiting a Buddhist temple is suitable. It's best to wear a pair of long pants or a skirt that's long enough to cover your knees.
