The Chamal Rajapaksha Agro Technology and Tourism Park in Bataatha is a significant landmark in Sri Lanka's agricultural landscape. Established in 2008, this park serves as the second Agro Technology Park in the country, embodying the concept of a green park. It was conceptualized by the former Agriculture Minister, Mr. Chamal Rajapaksha, and Dr. Rohan Wijekoon, the former Director General of Agriculture, with the primary goal of benefiting farmers.

Spanning around 50 acres, the park showcases a wide variety of agricultural crops, representing a high level of crop diversification that extends beyond the limitations of the dry zone. A notable feature of the park is the world's first agricultural monument at its entrance, symbolizing the bond between traditional farmers and agriculture. This monument is characterized by two clasped hands, representing the unity and connection between these essential elements of Sri Lankan culture.

The park aims to blend traditional farming methods with new technologies to enhance economic productivity and sustainable agriculture. By offering hands-on experiences, it aims to uplift agricultural practices and educate farmers and visitors on effective farming techniques.

The objectives of the Chamal Rajapaksha Agro Technology and Tourism Park include:

  1. Providing live crop demonstration knowledge on varieties and cultivation techniques recommended by the Department of Agriculture.
  2. demonstrating both traditional and new technologies in agriculture.
  3. Promoting agro-tourism to attract local and foreign tourists.
  4. Establishing an agricultural information and counselling centre for farmers, students, and the general public.
  5. Creating direct (e.g., Agricultural Consultant, Labor) and casual employment opportunities (like self-employment in local food sales).
  6. Offering guidance for agri-entrepreneurship development.

In addition to these objectives, the park provides various services such as:

  1. Agro-technical knowledge dissemination to school children, students in higher education, and farmer groups through crop demonstrations and practical examples.
  2. Modelling of new crop varieties as recommended by the Department of Agriculture.
  3. Practical training opportunities for students pursuing higher education in agriculture.
  4. Opportunities for tourists to enjoy entertainment alongside the appreciation of natural beauty.
  5. Provision of high-quality local food at affordable prices to tourists.
  6. Sale of farm produce at reasonable prices.
