Description
The Portuguese built the Mannar Fort in 1560; this is located in the heart of Mannar, overlooking the Indian Ocean, ensuring that this fort provides all the security that this trading port requires. During the war with the Dutch in 1658, this four-bastion fort was damaged, but after they took over Sri Lanka, they rebuilt the fort in 1696.
