Sri Lanka’s Largest Inscription Found

Sri Lanka, a land rich in history and archaeological wonders, has recently unveiled one of its most significant finds—a colossal inscription measuring 45 feet long and 18 feet high. Nestled in the historic Dimbulagala Aranya Senasana in Polonnaruwa, this discovery has left experts and enthusiasts alike in awe.

The Remarkable Discovery

The journey to this monumental discovery began with a tip-off from a villager who stumbled upon this hidden gem while venturing into the forest searching for bees. The Polonnaruwa Archaeological Survey Team and officials from the Inscription Division swiftly responded to the information.

According to a letter sent to the Polonnaruwa Assistant Director of the Department of Archaeology, MP Ratnapala Aranya Senasanadhipa Dimbulagala Rahulalankara, the process of copying the inscription is anticipated to take more than a month due to its sheer size and intricacy.

The Expedition

To ensure this historical artifact’s preservation and accurate documentation, a dedicated team of officers and workers from the Department of Archaeology has set up camp in the Dimbulagala mountain range. The meticulous copying of the inscription commenced on the 26th of last month.

Rahulalankara Nahimi, the Prefect of Historical Dimbulagala Aranya Senasanadhipa Dimbulagala Rahulalankara, highlighted the challenges in determining the inscription’s era. The monumental dimensions, 45 feet in length and 18 feet in height add to the mystery surrounding its origin. An official announcement from archaeologists regarding its historical context is expected in the coming month.
