There are many significant waterfalls throughout Sri Lanka, but the most spectacular drops transpire along the Hill country. Although their high-volume flows from wet mountain ranges have chiselled deep ravines, appearing in numerous majestic cascades.

The Aberdeen Waterfall remains one of the most iconic waterfalls in the Nuwara Eliya district! Reaching the cascade involves a reasonably challenging hike that will take you down a winding pathway composed of narrow staircases and paths laid in concrete. The walk will take you through lush undergrowth, which is usually darkened by the thick canopy – the hike is so scenic that many would find it very therapeutic. During the journey, one could listen to the sweet melodies of songbirds, the slow buzzing sound of the insects, and witness such creatures. There are unique plants, and you will also walk past several creeks, large boulders, and vines. At the end of the trail lies the waterfall –magnificent, epic, and stunning, all the elaborate words fail to describe its beauty – It is a site that must be visited to understand and appreciate its splendour!

The 63m high Dunhinda Fall is undoubtedly one of the most glorious waterfalls in Sri Lanka. The beauty of the fall and the surrounding nature has made it one of the highest-ranked tourist attraction places in the country. Dunhinda Falls has located about 5km to the north of Badulla City and originated from the adult Oya. The name “Dunhinda” in Sinhala refers to smoke as it produces a cloud of smoke when the water cascades into a large pool on the ground.

Kirindi Oya is the origin of Rawana Falls. Rawana Falls is found at an elevation of 3445 feet above sea level. The waterfall is 82 feet (25 meters) high. This magnificent waterfall, covered with oval and concave rocks, is a segment of the Rawana Falls Wildlife Reserve.

Gartmore Falls immediately befalls onto the Maskeliya Reservoir and is fed by two rivers that join over the falls. Each of these waters creates a waterfall before joining and lies inside the Gartmore Estate. Hence, these two waterfalls are commonly called Gartmore Estate Waterfalls.

The falls are located 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) west of the town of Talawakele on the Hatton-Talawakele Highway in Nuwara Eliya District.

The rise of Kirindi Ella waterfall is 116 metres. The cascades into a deep pool, which is called Diyagathwala. People stories have it that a rock stairway guides to the bottom of the pool, where a treasure trove is mysterious.
